Did a good deed yesterday

Thu Sep 24, 2009, 5:32 PM
Well it was time to fill up the petrol tank again today and since I'm a broke arse I thought I would only drive into the BP down the road if the price was low...however since it's Thursday I thought it would be something stupid like always. So as I came up to it, I could see 107.9 on the board and I instantly drove in. I always get the BP Ultimate (my car runs shit on the cheap stuff) so whatever is on the board + 20c = the BP ultimate price.

There were 2 other people about to fill up their tanks as well. I've put the nozzle into the car and noticed the lady opposite me was just standing there without squeezing the nozzle. I asked her 'Oh has he not pressed the button for the fuel yet?' and she said 'Nah apparently he is off to change the price of the fuel.' She seemed pretty pissed and so she should be! All 3 of us had driven into the petrol station with the 107.9 price showing and thats what we should be elidgible for.

All of us stood beside our cars watching the guy roam out to the sign with his stool and a collection of numbers. Down comes the 107.9 and up goes 129.9, WTF! When the guy came back, I asked him what price we would be receiving and he said 'Sorry I've been busy all day and I haven't had a chance to change it earlier...' blah blah blah. He told us we could get a discount on food inside the store which I refused because I don't want to buy other stuff, I want just petrol. The guy that was wanting to fill his car yelled out that the servo guy shouldn't be changing the price while cars are waiting to fuel up. The servo guy eventually said 'Ok I'll give you an 18c discount'. It seemed like he was saying it just to me since I was the one being so vocal about it so I said 'As long as the other 2 get the discount too,' lol gotta stick up for the team! :P

As I turned back around to look at the price on the screen, I could see it was incorrect and was showing me 14.9. I asked the lady opposite me what price was on her screen, and she said 149.9. I then asked the guy what was on his screen and he also said 149.9. I told the lady that once she was finished filling up to come have a look at me. It's weird because right then I thought 'oh shit, i shouldn't show her, she might tell the servo guy' cause you get some people who are goody too shoes. Anyway she was wow'd by it and had a laugh and walked into the servo to pay for her fuel.

I watched the dollar screen ever so slowly tick over, and the litres were flyin, lol. I told the guy to come and look at my screen and he was shocked as well but had a good laugh. I finished filling the tank and it came to $7.50 for a full tank of petrol, when normally it costs $70 on average. As I'm walking into the servo, the lady was walking out and she just smiled at me, thankfully she had not told the servo guy. At the counter the other guy was passing over a $50 note and he looked at me and had a laugh at the cost of his petrol, gave me a wink and walked out. I went to pay, and the servo guy then applied the 18c per litre discount which then took my petrol down to $6.50!!! Out I walked, very proud, lol.

The guy outside was cleaning his windscreen, and I yelled out to him 'Hey mate, he gave me the discount on top of my $7.50' and he was like 'what the fuck?? thats crazy shit, good on ya!'. I then walked over to him, pulled out the $20 from my wallet and gave it to him and said 'we both got cheap petrol' and he was like 'are you serious???? awesome!!!! thank you soooooo much!!!!' The look on his face was unreal, it was all worth it, I had made his day.

I went to walk back to my car and he yelled out 'oh hang on' and he came over to me and gave me the biggest hug! He said 'thank you so much, there should be more people like you' and I said 'well I'm a qlder mate, so just remember that' and we had a good laugh and drove off.

Even though in the end I ended up paying $26.50 for my tank of petrol, the other guy only paid $30 as well and I still walked out with $45 in my pocket. It made my day putting that smile on that dude's face. :)
